Abstrakt is a trumpet solo commissioned by Dominique Bodart & Brass Promotion as the test piece for the final round of the 3rd International Trumpet Competition "Théo Charlier" 2019. The soloist part is written for trumpet in C and Flugelhorn, the accompaniment is for string ensemble (4-3-2-2-1 minimum).

Abstrakt is dedicated to Leo Wouters, solo trumpet player at the National Orchestra of Belgium. Stan Nieuwenhuis studied trumpet with Leo Wouters at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, Belgium.

Abstrakt is a piece in 3 movements. The first movement is energetic and majestic, the second movement is a lyrical, melancholic movement for flugelhorn. The third movement is a fast virtuose movement. Despite the specific charachter of each movement, the soloist will be challenged technically and musically throughout the whole piece.
