Orison

Orison

Orchestration: Euphonium and effect pedals
Difficulty: Moderately
Duration: 3'
Editions: Euphonium solo (15,00 euro)

Orison is a solo piece for euphonium with loops and effects by Stan Nieuwenhuis. It
was written for Glenn Van Looy's second solo album in 2013.
The piece opens with a cadenza, setting the atmosphere before the loops and effects
kick in. There is a build-up of 3 loops that use effects as delay and chorus; a bassline, a
harmonic line and a melodic line. After the set-up of these loops a free melody starts to
bend around the loops. The loops and melody fade out into a soft ending.
An orison is the act of attempting to communicate with a deity or spirit.
